Wagga Wagga Rheumatology

About the Clinic

Dr Matthew Parker, Dr Michael Spies, and Dr Elaine Ng provide specialist rheumatology care to the Murrumbidgee community. Dr Parker has been travelling to Wagga Wagga since 2018 and Dr Spies since 2022. Dr Ng is relocating to Wagga Wagga from July 2026, bringing a locally based specialist to the region.

Our doctors diagnose and manage the full spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions, including inflammatory, and autoimmune disorders primarily affecting bones, joints, muscles, connective tissue and blood vessels. For further details, please visit our Services List page.

Dr Parker and Dr Spies also hold appointments at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, where they deliver advanced rheumatology services. The expertise they gain in a leading tertiary centre directly benefits patients in the Murrumbidgee region.

All three rheumatologists are committed to improving access to specialist care in the Riverina region, and to the future of rheumatology through education and mentorship. Dr Parker and Dr Spies serve as clinical supervisors for Rheumatology Advanced Trainees from Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, providing training opportunities in our clinics with the hope of inspiring more doctors to pursue careers in regional and rural healthcare.

Please note: For billing purposes, Dr Parker, Dr Spies and Dr Ng each operate as sole traders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, you can receive a Medicare rebate for your appointment. To be eligible, you’ll need to provide a valid referral from your GP or another specialist, addressed to the doctor you are seeing. A referral is important because it helps us understand your medical background and ensures you can claim the rebate from Medicare.

Yes, you can choose to see either Dr Parker or Dr Spies. As they work as individual sole traders, your referral will need to be addressed to the doctor you’d like to see. This ensures your appointment is booked correctly and that you can claim your Medicare rebate.

At the moment, we are the only rheumatology service available in the Murrumbidgee region, and our doctors can only visit four days each month. Because of this, our appointments fill up quickly, and we need to prioritise the most urgent cases. We understand this can be frustrating, and we are actively working on ways to expand our service so that more patients can access timely care.

To get the most out of your consultation:

  • Bring your referral addressed to the doctor you’ll be seeing.

  • Bring a list of your current medications (including doses) and any allergies.

  • Bring relevant medical records or test results, such as blood tests, imaging, or previous specialist letters.

  • Write down your symptoms and questions in advance, including when they started and what makes them better or worse.

  • Consider bringing a support person if you’d like help remembering information or discussing your care.

  • Make sure you have had recent blood tests if you are following up and have been instructed by your specialist.

Being prepared helps your doctor understand your health fully and ensures your appointment is as effective as possible.

If you need to cancel or change your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. A small cancellation fee may apply if notice is not given in advance. This helps us manage our limited appointment availability and allows other patients to be seen.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide this service at the moment. However, we do offer reduced rates for pensioners to help make our care more accessible.
